Unox).
“a world-class performance” – Leicester Mercury
“Daring, imaginative stuff. Simply a thrill”- Marlbank
The two founder members of the much loved group “The Impossible Gentlemen” have established a unique rapport through their love of music of all kinds from rock to classical, jazz and folk. These extraordinary improvisational talents explore a rich harmonic world that is highly accessible, emotionally engaging and often jaw dropping. They met Hermine Deurloo at Ambleside Festival last year and found an instant musical rapport. This is a new trio with much to explore.
Gwilym Simcock is one of the most gifted pianists and imaginative composers on the European scene. He moves effortlessly between jazz and classical music, with a ‘harmonic sophistication and subtle dovetailing of musical traditions’. Gwilym has been hailed as a pianist of ‘exceptional’, ‘brilliant’ and ‘dazzling’ ability, and his music has been widely acclaimed as ‘engaging, exciting, often unexpected, melodically enthralling, complex yet hugely accessible’, and above all ‘wonderfully optimistic’. Gwilym has toured extensively with the cream of British and international jazz. He co-leads the Anglo-American Supergroup ‘The Impossible Gentlemen’ with British Guitar legend Mike Walker and regularly tours the world with Pat Metheny, Antonio Sanchez and Linda Oh.
Mike Walker’s passion for guitar was heavily influenced by his own interest in jazz but flavoured by a broad spectrum of genres across the musical spectrum. Mike plays in The Printmakers with Nikki Iles, Norma Winstone, Mark Lockhart, James Maddren and Steve Watts, and has also been busy composing and touring with The Impossible Gentlemen, a group he co-leads with Gwilym Simcock, They have released 3 albums and in 2013 the group were named ‘Best Jazz Ensemble’ at the Parliamentary Jazz Awards. Mike redorded with musicians as Steve Swallow, Dave Holland, Steve Rodby, Peter Erskine and many more.
